This sequel is a little more than usual. Last week’s issue had a glitch, and not everyone received it, so I have rolled over a lot of information in last Thursday’s newsletter, plus more. Who is ready for office hours?
RICH + RIOT Office Hours - Building a Brand through Community. Join us May 27th at 12:00 pm PST / 3:00 for an interactive fireside chat with Kim Johnson, Head of Community at Geneva and former Community Manager at Glossier. We will discuss how we can build community with ourselves as entrepreneurs and businesses to stand firm through both the current crisis and whatever the future holds.
In this interactive fireside chat office hours, you'll:
Hear real-life examples of what it looks like to be part of a resilient community.
Share the practices and actions that you've found most helpful for building your community.
Learn approaches for proactively building resilient communities in your brand and your businesses to survive and thrive during crises.
Connect with other entrepreneurs and learn from their successes and mistakes.
🎤 Pitch Competitions
I know I posted about them before, but my favorite pitch competition is coming back for another season. Twitch Pitch is accepting applications again.
Startup Showdown offers early-stage startups the chance to pitch investors and increase their visibility among an expanded investor network. The Panoramic Investment team reviews every submitted application. All semifinalists benefit from Mentor Day, where they will refine their pitch in front of experienced founders and other tech executives. Five finalists are selected to compete on stage before a panel of guest judges to win $120,000.
Startup Grind is excited to launch Pitch.tech competition. It will be held across May & June, with multiple rounds. The winner will win a $10k cash prize + extensive support + benefits from SG to build and scale the idea.
🌱Mentorship / Fellowships
Day One offers a ten-week fellowship program where participants will have hands-on guidance to navigate their journey as a Founder. The fellowship also includes frequent office hours with experienced founders, chances to pitch investors, and curated playbooks to help participants level up while they build.
Substack Bridge is a two-month mentorship program that matches emerging and established Substack writers to help them reach their goals. ( I am applying to this)

📚Reading - Do the work by Steven Pressfield It is a speedy read.
📺 Watching - Khi, Rich+Riot’s Line Editor, will watch literally anything that involves period costumes and intricate set design. A million bonus points if it involves aliens, zombies, or both. So naturally, she is watching The Nevers on HBO Max. Basically, many people in Victorian-era London are randomly bestowed with gifts ranging from being able to turn anything into glass to healing by touch. The problem is that many folks who didn’t get magical powers aren’t too jazzed by the new developments and are coming for their gifted neighbors. Honestly, Khi feels like the show is kind of all over the place, but she’s no quitter!
Rich + Riot was previously a product brand with an empowerment message. Now, it is an empowerment community with just a few products. Rich + Riot is about empowering women entrepreneurs and encouraging collaborations.
